We are on the road spending time in the UK and US to take meetings, attend a trade show, and work with retailers!
Last week we had the privilege of meeting with a U.K. Member of Parliament, Pauline Latham, Vice Chair of the International Development Committee. We sat down to talk about how our model of no hand-outs and no loans represents a new wave of post-colonial feminist strategy and how investing in female entrepreneurs can change the global story of poverty, gender inequality, and human trafficking. Replication, expansion and thousands of lives changed were the themes of the morning.
We love having opportunities to share the mission and vision behind our market based approach and why we think it's so important. Already we're seeing women activated to pursue their dreams as they save up the capital, through dignified and fair employment, to start their own businesses. Through gaining experience in the workforce, T+G women are growing in self-confidence, leadership skills, and workplace knowledge- all skills that will serve them well in running their own enterprises. As T+G program members, the drive and initiative is dependent on each woman to claim agency for herself and her dream. We believe strongly that this model is the best possible way to activate and empower female entrepreneurs to become change makers in their communities for generations to come. We had so much fun sharing this vision in the House of Commons and look forward to continuing the conversation, spurring forward the movement of a new approach to development!
